Haxtun:First National Bank/Town Hall

Address: 145 S. Colorado, Haxtun                                                 Construction Date: 1917 (NR National Register of Historic Places)

Originally built as a bank - upon bank's failure in the 30's, the city took it over as the town hall. Most of original features are intact, including two safes, leaded etched-glass windows and terrazo floors. "The 1917 bank closed in 1932 as part of the general economic collapse during the Great Depression. The city purchased the building in 1939 for use as the city hall. It is a good example of the Neo-Classical style and includes marble pilasters, pediments, and cornices. The interior retains its marble baseboards and teller plates, terrazzo floors, wood room dividers with leaded and etched glass, and beamed ceiling. " [State of Colorado OAHP]

The First National Bank is built on the intersection of two unpaved roads in the farming community of Haxtun, Colorado, in Phillips County. Architectural features of the one-story, brick building include pediments, a cornice with dentils, and pilasters.
